# Michigan Pheasant Hunting Initiative (MPHI) > MPHI is a 100% volunteer 501(c)3 non-profit hunter recruitment organization that promotes rooster pheasant releases on public land in Michigan. MPHI works with the Michigan DNR, state legislators, and game bird breeders to keep the pheasant release program running for all licensed hunters. ## About MPHI was founded to get the pheasant release program started in Michigan and continues push to have more roosters released on 13 public state game areas across southern Michigan. Fresh roosters are released twice a week throughout the season. A $25 pheasant license is required for hunters 18 and older.
